PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:S-759 Thin-set floor mortar is a Tile Council of America formula. It has been specifically formulated to provide high bond strength and high density for good compressive strength. S-759 is formulated for long open time even at higher temperature. USES:For adhering glazed, unglazed, mosaics, quarry tile, terrazzo and most other types of tile to properly prepared horizontal substrates such as; masonry, concrete, mortar beds and cement backer boards and drywall. S-759 may be applied from 3/32" to 1/4" thickness over suitable substrates. For light duty residential applications over properly installed exterior grade plywood, S-800 acrylic admixture must be used in place of water. LIMITATIONS:Do not use S-759 Thin set mortar over frozen or unsound substrates. Do not set tile where ambient and substrate temperatures are below 50 degrees F. TECHNICAL DATA:
INSTALLATION Substrate Preparation:The substrate preparation and installation must be done in accordance with ANSI A108.5. Thin set methods using an ANSI A118.1 type mortar, such as S-759, should not be used on concrete slabs above grade. Use an epoxy adhesive such as; S-300, S-400, or S-4500 for these applications. MIXING:Use a clean bucket and slow speed mixer (150-200 RPM). Always add powder to premeasured liquid, about 1 gallon per 25-lb. bag. Allow to slake for 10-15 minutes then re-mix. This allows materials to "wet" and will improve bond strength, coverage and workability. Do not re-temper mix with additional liquid after it begins to set up. APPLICATION:Spread enough material that can be covered in 15-20 minutes. High temperature, sun or wind can reduce the skin time. Do not set tile in mortar that has skinned. Check for skinning by placing a tile into the mortar with a twisting motion then remove tile. If you do not get the proper coverage of mortar adhering to the back of the tile, recomb and re-test. If you still get improper coverage, remove mortar and replace with fresh S-759. Apply S-759 with flat side of trowel at 30 degrees -45 degrees to assure proper bond coat, then apply proper thickness with notched trowel. SETTING:Full coverage of the setting material on the back of the tile is desirable to prevent broken and cracked tile. The National Tile Contractors Association recommendation to accomplish full coverage is as follows: Apply mortar to substrate using the flat side of the trowel to fill any voids and "key" the material to the substrate. Using the proper sized notched trowel, comb the mortar evenly in one direction only. Do not "swirl". Set the tile in the mortar with the edge of the tile parallel to the comb lines. To remove air voids, push the tile back and forth in the mortar perpendicular to the comb lines. Back buttering may be necessary on large or irregular tile, to get required coverage. Pot life is 3 to 1-1/2 hours depending on temperature and humidity. Allow 24 to 72 hours before grouting the installation. ADMIXTURES:Use S-800 Acrylic Admixture or S-810 Flexible Mortar System when installing tile over properly prepared exterior grade plywood. The use of S-800 or S-810 in S-759 will give a more flexible water resistant and higher bond strength mortar bed. CAUTION:Job failure can result from setting tile onto thin-set mortar which has skinned. Check any mortar which has been on the substrate longer than 15 minutes by pressing a tile gently but firmly onto the troweled ribs of mortar. If proper coverage is not obtained, recomb the mortar and retest, or remove and trowel with new mortar. PROTECTING NEW TILEWORK:To avoid damage to finished tilework, schedule floor installations to begin only after all structural work, building enclosure, and overhead finishing work, such as ceilings, painting, mechanical and electrical work are completed. Keep all traffic off of finished tile floors until it has fully cured, or provide up to 3/4" thick plywood protection over Kraft paper to protect floors before installation materials have fully cured. COVERAGE:Coverage will depend on trowel size, substrate and tile type. S-759 will cover about 1.8 to 2.0 square feet per pound at the 3/32" to 1/8" bed thickness. CLEAN-UP:Clean tools and spills with water immediately after use and before the material dries. S-759 modified with S-800 latex will be particularly difficult to clean once it is dried. COLORS:#910 White, and #960 Gray. PACKAGING:S-759 Thin set floor mortar is packaged in 50-lb. bags.
