PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:S-710 is a sanded grout which contains dry powdered latex and is suitable for use in either floor or wall installations and on all types of tile. This formulation will produce a dense serviceable joint with superior bond strength, increased flexural strength, as well as freeze-thaw stability without the addition of latex admixtures. S-710 is recommended for 1/8" through 1/2" joint widths. S-710 MEETS OR EXCEEDS ANSI A118.6. CAUTION: Do not add Epoxy Admixtures such as S-120. Summitville uses only the highest quality raw materials and the latest state-of-the-art mixing equipment for processing. This, along with our extensive Quality Assurance program, assures a consistent, high quality product. S-710 PolyChromes are available in 32 colors to satisfy the most demanding color needs. Custom colors are also available in 2000 pound minimum quantities. USES:S-710 PolyChromes are suitable for use with all types of tile and stone which require a sanded joint of not less than 1/8" and not more than 1/2". For joints less than 1/8" use S-667 or S-687 unsanded wall grouts. S-700 may be used in commercial kitchens, schools, foods processing plants and residential areas where chemical resistance is NOT a prime concern. For areas that need high chemical resistance use either the S-400, S-500, S-600, S-5000 Series Epoxies or S-4000 Series Furans. LIMITATIONS:Not to be used in areas that will be in contact with concentrated acids, alkalies or solvents. Specify S-400, S-500, S-600, S-5000 Epoxy or S-4000 Series Furan in these areas. S-710 should not be used to grout when the ambient temperature is below 50 degrees F. Do not grout floors with S-710 until the setting material has cured at least 24 hours. However, if installation has been set with a quick-setting thin-set mortar like S-2000, it can be grouted in 3-4 hours. TECHNICAL DATA:Meets or exceeds ANSI 118.6 for compressive strength and water absorption.
MIXING:S-710 should be mixed to a smooth consistency using a minimal amount of cool, clean, potable water. Do not add Latex or Epoxy Admixture. Use approximately 4 quarts of water for a 50 pound bag of S-710 or 2 quarts per 25 pound bag of S-710. Mix in clean bucket by hand or with a low RPM mixer (150-250 RPM). IMPORTANT: S-710 MUST SLAKE A MINIMUM OF 10 MINUTES, THEN REMIX BEFORE ADJUSTING MIX WITH ADDITIONAL WATER. THE S-710 MIX WILL APPEAR SLIGHTLY STIFF WHEN FIRST MIXED, BUT WILL BECOME CREAMY AFTER THE REQUIRED 10 MINUTE SLAKE PERIOD. IMPORTANT: ALWAYS USE THE MINIMUM AMOUNT OF WATER TO ACHIEVE WORKABILITY, EXCESS WATER CAN CAUSE GROUT SHADING AND SHRINKAGE OR CRACKING. APPLICATION:Porous tile should be sealed before grouting to prevent tile staining. Always test a small area first. Force S-710 into grout joints by working grout back and forth at a diagonal with a Grout Master or similar hard rubber float or trowel, making sure that each joint is completely filled. Use one of the following methods to clean up tile. CLEAN-UP:Remove as much grout film as possible with the edge of the rubber float, allow the joints to firm slightly for 10-15 minutes; slightly longer if vitreous or semi-vitreous tile is used. Then use a wet towel method or sponge with cool, clean water and drag diagonally across joints, being careful not to pull grout from joints. Use clean water only and frequently rinse towels or sponge to avoid grout shading with contamination by dirty clean-up water. Should cleanup be insufficient after the above prescribed method, apply a saturated sulfamic acid solution (SL-70), after grout has cured 7 days minimum, to the tile surfaces to be cleaned, and allow solution to remain several minutes, then clean with towels or burlap. After tiles are clean, rinse floor with clean water to remove any acid residue. NOTE: Saturated sulfamic acid solution is prepared by adding and mixing sulfamic acid solution is prepared by adding and mixing sulfamic acid into clean water (use clean pail) until the acid will no longer dissolve in the solution. CURING:Protect floors from traffic and contamination from other trades for 72 hours. Grouts containing latex should not be damp cured. PROTECTING NEW TILEWORK:To avoid damage to finished tilework, schedule floor installations to begin only after all structural work, building enclosure, and overhead finishing work, such as ceilings, painting, mechanical and electrical work are completed. Keep all traffic off of finished tile floors until it has fully cured, or provide up to 3/4" thick plywood protection over Kraft paper to protect floors before installation materials have fully cured. CAUTION:The ceramic tile manufacturer should be consulted to determine if the tile being used is suitable for use with colored or sanded grout. ALL COLORED GROUTS USED IN FLOORS ARE SUBJECT TO DISCOLORATION THROUGH NORMAL USE. Even though S-710 is specially designed to reduce shading, tile grouts that contain portland cement based products are subject to mottling or shading. Factors, such as job site conditions, tile porosity, nonuniform drying conditions or finishing techniques can cause shade variations in the cured grout. TILE INSTALLATION SHOULD SET 24 HOURS BEFORE GROUTING TO REDUCE THE POTENTIAL OF EFFLORESCENCE BY THE SETTING MATERIAL BELOW. However, if installation has been set with a quick-setting thin-set mortar like S-2000, it can be grouted in 3-4 hours. COVERAGE:Coverage will vary with tile size and joint width. Please check with Summitville for tile sizes not covered here. Grout Coverage: Floor Tile
CLEAN-UP:Tools may be cleaned with soap and water before grout dries. Dry powder spills should be swept up and disposed of in accordance with local regulations.
