S-700 SUMMITCHROMES COLORED SANDED JOINT FILLER

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:

S-700 SummitChromes improved sanded grouts are portland cement based formulations that have been modified with defoamers, water retentive chemicals, colorants, and strengthening agents, to give a dense, full joint with high bond strength and superior compressive strength. Summitville uses only the highest quality raw materials and the latest state-of-the-art mixing equipment for processing. This along with our extensive Quality Assurance program assures a consistent, high quality product. S-700 SummitChromes is available in 32 colors to satisfy the most demanding color needs. Custom colors are also available in 2000 lb. minimum quantities. Meets or exceeds ANSI A118.6 specifications.

USES:

S-700 Improved is suitable for use with all types of tile and stone which require a sanded joint of not less than 1/8" and not more than 1/2". For joints less than 1/8" use S-667 or S-687 unsanded wall grouts. S-700 may be used in commercial kitchens, schools, foods processing plants and residential areas where chemical resistance is NOT a prime concern. For areas that need high chemical resistance use either the S-400, S-500, S-600, or S-5000 Series Epoxies or S-4000 Series Furans.

S-700 can be mixed with S-120, S-600 100% Solids Epoxy admixture or S-775 Latex admixtures in lieu of water to give a more flexible, water resistant and higher compressive strength joint.

LIMITATIONS:

Not to be used in areas that will be in contact with concentrated acids, alkalies or solvents. Specify S-400, S-500, S-600, S-5000 Epoxy or S-4000 Series Furan in these areas. S-700 should not be used to grout when the ambient temperature is below 50 degrees F. Do not grout floors with S-700 until the setting material has cured at least 24 hours. However, if installation has been set with a quick-setting thin-set mortar like S-2000, it can be grouted in 3-4 hours. All colored grouts used in floors are subject to discoloration. High traffic areas are not recommended for light colored grouts.

TECHNICAL DATA:

Meets or exceeds ANSI 118.6 for compressive strength and water absorption.

Compressive strength 3000 psi (28 days) ASTM C-109
Water absorbtion less than 12%
Density 2.25 g/cc

INSTALLATION:

S-700 Improved sanded grout should be mixed in a clean bucket by hand or with a low RPM mixer (150-250 RPM) as not to whip air into the mix. The grout powder should be added to the pre-measured liquid, approximately two (2) quarts per 25 pound bag. Mix grout to a stiff consistency, (NO slump) and allow to slake for 10-15 minutes, then re-mix. Pot life is approximately 1-1/2 to 2 hours depending on temperature. Grout may be re-mixed occasionally but DO NOT add additional liquid.

APPLICATION:

Tile should be dampened prior to applying S-700 grout. Highly porous tile may need additional wetting to prevent insufficient hydration of the cement in the grout. Spread the grout using a

hard rubber float. Force the grout into the joints being careful not to trap air. Do not allow grout containing latex or S-120 Epoxy admixture to dry excessively on the tile surface before cleaning. Using the edge of the rubber float at 90 degrees , remove all excess grout without removing grout from the joints. Follow this by cleaning remaining grout film from tile by one of the following methods.

CLEAN-UP:

Remove as much grout film as possible with the edge of the rubber float, allow the joints to firm slightly for 10-15 minutes; slightly longer if vitreous or semi-vitreous tile is used. Then use wet towel method or sponge with cool, clean water and drag diagonally across joints, being careful not to pull grout from joints. Use clean water only and frequently rinse towels or sponge to avoid grout shading with contamination by dirty clean-up water.

Should cleanup be insufficient after the above prescribed clean-up method, apply a saturated sulfamic acid solution (SL-70), after grout has cured seven days minimum, to the tile surfaces to be cleaned and allow solution to remain several minutes then clean with towels or burlap. After tiles are clean, rinse floor with clean water to remove any acid residue. NOTE: Saturated sulfamic acid solution is prepared by adding and mixing sulfamic acid solution is prepared by adding and mixing sulfamic acid into clean water (use clean pail) until the acid will no longer dissolve in the solution. CAUTION: Acid cleanup should not be attempted until 7 days after tile have been grouted.

CURING:

For uniform cured grout joints, moisten or damp mop for 2 days and allow floor to cure for 72 hours. DO NOT DAMP CURE GROUTS WHICH CONTAIN LATEX. Protect floors from traffic and contamination with other trades for 72 hours.

PROTECTING NEW TILEWORK:

To avoid damage to finished tilework, schedule floor installations to begin only after all structural work, building enclosure, and overhead finishing work, such as ceilings, painting, mechanical and electrical work are completed. Keep all traffic off of finished tile floors until it has fully cured, or provide up to 3/4" thick plywood protection over Kraft paper to protect floors before installation materials have fully cured.

CAUTION:

The ceramic tile manufacturer should be consulted to determine if the tile being used is suitable for use with colored or sanded grout. ALL COLORED GROUTS USED IN FLOORS ARE SUBJECT TO DISCOLORATION. Tile grouts that are portland cement based products are subject to mottling or shading. Other factors such as job site conditions, tile porosity, non-uniform drying conditions or finishing techniques can cause shade variations in the cured grout. TILE INSTALLATION SHOULD SET 24 HOURS BEFORE GROUTING TO REDUCE THE POTENTIAL OF EFFLORESCENCE BY THE SETTING MATERIAL BELOW. However, if installation has been set with a quick-setting thin-set mortar like S-2000, it can be grouted in 3-4 hours.
