S-687 FUNGUS- AND MILDEW-
RESISTANT GROUT

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:

S-687 joint filler is formulated to resist the growth of most prevalent types of fungus and mildew, including black molds which stain or discolor conventionally formulated grouts. The active ingredient in S-687 is registered with the EPA, No. 2204-19, and is ecologically safe. Tests performed by the Tile Council of America Research Center conclusively determined S-687 prevents mold, mildew and fungus growth on the grout as well as on a thin layer of growth- supporting medium poured onto the surface of the grout. Meets or exceeds ANSI A118.6 specifications.

USES:

S-687 is recommended for bath and shower room installations.

LIMITATIONS:

S-687 is formulated for narrow tile joints only (not to exceed 1/8"). Ambient temperature should be at least 50 degrees F before grouting tile. Tile must have been set at least 24 hours before grouting.

INSTALLATION:

Mixing: S-687 should be mixed to a smooth consistency with clean, cool, potable water or S-775 Latex Additive. Do not use too much liquid when mixing S-687. Use approximately 1 gallon of water or 3 quarts of S-775 per 25 pound bag. NOTE: Add powder to liquid instead of liquid to powder when mixing.

APPLICATION:

Force S-687 into grout joints by working it back and forth at a diagonal with a Grout Master or similar hard rubber float or trowel, making sure that each joint is completely filled. Grout joints should be compacted by striking or tooling with a blunt, rounded implement (popsicle stick).

CLEANING:

Excess S-687 should be cleaned from tile surface by a diagonal squeegee action using the rubber backed trowel. Remaining film should be removed before drying with a damp sponge or cheesecloth. Final polishing with cheesecloth is sometimes required to remove excess, dried film.

CURING:

Damp mopping or wet curing is recommended for increased hardness. Allow a 48 hour cure time before using the installation.

CAUTION:

Do not use S-687 for wide joints or on load bearing surfaces. use S-700 instead. Do not use excessive water. NEVER GROUT ANY TILE INSTALLATION PRIOR TO 24 HOURS AFTER SETTING.

PROTECTING NEW TILEWORK:

To avoid damage to finished tilework, schedule floor installations to begin only after all structural work, building enclosure, and overhead finishing work, such as ceilings, painting, mechanical and electrical work are completed. Keep all traffic off of finished tile floors until it has fully cured, or provide up to 3/4" thick plywood protection over Kraft paper to protect floors before installation materials have fully cured.

*Summitville recommends neutral colored grouts for heavy traffic floors. For superior stain resistance and color retentivity, use S-500 WC Epoxy. Custom colors available, one pallet minimum quantity.

SPECIFICATIONS:

Material: Unsanded joint filler shall be fungus- and mildew- resistant S-687, consisting of a blended mixture of Type I portland cement, Groutcide-75 as registered by E.P.A., and water retention aid, as manufactured by Summitville Tiles, Inc., Summitville, Ohio. The material shall be used on porous-bodied ceramic tile on vertical surfaces for narrow joints (less than 1/8"). Material shall meet or exceed ANSI A118.6 specification.
