PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:S-2000 is a fast setting thin set latex mortar for floor and wall applications. S-2000 is a special formulation designed for installations which require a minimum amount of time. The high early strength characteristics allow grouting operation to begin within 2 to 4 hours after tile has been set. This product also contains a powdered latex system that only requires the addition of the appropriate amount of water to attain the proper working consistency. S-2000 meets or exceeds ANSI A118.4. USES:S-2000 quick setting mortar is recommended for setting all types of tile where minimum amount of installation time is required. LIMITATIONS:High temperatures or low humidity can affect working time. The working time for S-2000 is approximately 30 minutes at 68 degrees F. Shelf life under normal storage conditions is 9 months. When installing porcelain pavers over plywood, flooring must be exterior-grade plywood that meets all ANSI guidelines. Floor deflection cannot exceed "L-over-360" under both dead and live loads. INSTALLATION:Substrates: All substrate preparation and tile installation must be in accordance with the Tile Council of America's Handbook for ceramic tile installations to insure proper performance and longevity of the installation. Substrates include cured concrete, mortar bed, wood subfloor with mortar bed substrate, exterior grade plywood, dry wall, glass mesh mortar units and masonry. MIXING:Mix S-2000 slowly into clean potable water at a ratio of 1-1/2 gal. of water per 50-lb. bag of S-2000 Quick-Set, or about 3-1/4 fluid ounces per pound of powder; mix thoroughly until a trowelable paste is obtained. (For best results add powder to liquid!) No slake time is required and amount of water will depend on temperature or humidity -- mix using a slow speed revolving bucket type mixer or similar mixer. Do not mix at high speed. APPLICATION:1. Substrate must be clean and dust free before S-2000 is applied. 2. Apply S-2000 to substrate and trowel an area that can be set in 10 to 15 minutes taking temperature and humidity into consideration. (High temperature or low humidity can affect working time. The working time of this product after mixing is approximately 30 minutes at 68 degrees F.) SETTING:Full coverage of the setting material on the back of the tile is desirable to prevent broken and cracked tile. The National Tile Contractors Association recommendation to accomplish full coverage is as follows: Apply mortar to substrate using the flat side of the trowel to fill any voids and "key" the material to the substrate. Using the proper sized notched trowel, comb the mortar evenly in one direction only. Do not "swirl". Set the tile in the mortar with the edge of the tile parallel to the comb lines. To remove air voids, push the tile back and forth in the mortar perpendicular to the comb lines. CAUTION:JOB FAILURES CAN RESULT FROM SETTING TILE ONTO SET MORTAR WHICH HAS "SKINNED". Check any mortar which has been on the substrate longer than 12 to 15 minutes by pressing a tile gently but firmly onto the trowelled ribs of mortar. If proper coverage is not obtained, re-comb the mortar and re-set, or remove and re-trowel new mortar. Tile can be walked on and grouted in about 2-5 hours. PROTECTING NEW TILEWORK:To avoid damage to finished tilework, schedule floor installations to begin only after all structural work, building enclosure, and overhead finishing work, such as ceilings, painting, mechanical and electrical work are completed. Keep all traffic off of finished tile floors until it has fully cured, or provide up to 3/4" thick plywood protection over Kraft paper to protect floors before installation materials have fully cured. COVERAGE:
CLEAN-UP:Clean spills and tools with water. (Warm water with a small amount of detergent will expedite clean-up operation.) PACKAGING:S-2000 is available in 25 lb. and 50 lb. bags.
